Our Speakers

Dr Omavi Bailey, MD MPH
Dr. Omavi Bailey serves in his capacity as the President of PROMETRA USA functioning as a bridge between Africa and the Diaspora with the purpose of promoting and participating in the development and discovery of solutions to address the global health crisis and heal the much deeper wounds suffered by humanity.
His experience and training span from initiations in sacred temples to studying at the feet of African traditional healers and spiritual leaders. However, his formal training as a Somnologist, Epidemiologist, and Medical Doctor has also allowed him to bridge his traditional knowledge with his western training to serve patients through his clinical practice.

Dr. Arletha Lizana PhD, MPH, MBA PROMETRA Board Member
Arletha W. Lizana (Livingston) PhD, MPH, MBA is Associate Vice President, Health Innovation & Strategy and Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine. Arletha’s life work includes an emphasis on assisting women of color, assisting community-based organizations, promoting community empowerment, commitment to social innovation, teaching herbal medicine, respect for indigenous traditions and devotion to systems change and policy change as vehicles to promote health, prevent disease and address systemic societal problems.
Using her spiritual gifts and professional background in community health, she created CEIBA WOMEN to help women reclaim their health, prevent disease, empower their families, and heal our communities. Through running the CEIBA WOMEN store & farm, leading retreats, and teaching classes, Arletha helps women find their “happy, powerful, and inspired” places as healers and leaders in this society.

Dr. Kofi Kondwani PhD, PROMETRA Board Member
Kofi A. Kondwani, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine, at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) in Atlanta Georgia, USA. Dr. Kondwani developed Consciously Resting Meditation (CRM), a simple, natural, mental technique to treat and prevent the effects of stress on the mind, body and behavior.
Dr. Kondwani has taught CRM for more than 47 years to children, students, professionals, prison inmates, athletes and entertainers to name a few. He served as the treatment provider in six randomized clinical control trials. These trials were supported by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine. These research projects have investigated the physiological, psychological, and behavioral effects of CRM.

Dr. Yahaya Sekagya, DDS, JD, PhD President of PROMETRA UGANDA
Dr. Yahaya Sekagya, DDS, JD, PhD President of PROMETRA Uganda works towards sustainable community development and good standard of health by all the people through promotion of traditional medical knowledge and practices especially in vulnerable and poor rural areas.
He has practiced of Traditional healing since 1978, and Western Medicine since 1993 and is affiliated with Uganda Dental Association, Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council and Uganda traditional healers’ associations. His current projects involve Building PROMETRA Uganda Capacity for Effective Program Implementation in Community Health, Agroecology and Livelihoods in Uganda.

Dr. Mays Imad, PhD PROMETRA USA
Mays Imad, PhD received her undergraduate training from the University of Michigan–Dearborn where she studied philosophy. She received her doctoral degree in Cellular & Clinical Neurobiology from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan
A nationally-recognized expert on trauma-informed teaching and learning, she passionately advocates for institutions to make mental health a top priority and to systematically support the education of the whole student. She received funding from the Hewlett Foundation for her work on trauma-informed education. In addition to her work on trauma, emotional regulation, and mental health, Mays received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for her work on critical thinking in STEM courses.
